The device (10) has a multiple joint hinge with which the hood (1) can be opened from the front. A safety device has at least one actuator (7) operated by a sensor signal(s) to move the hood from the closed position to an open position at least near the front windscreen. The interaction of the hinge device between the hood and the vehicle body (2) can be deactivated or interrupted for safe raising of the hood.
