[Class 17 (i).] Lasting.-Relates to means for tempor. arily holding end portions of lasted uppers in lasted position, and consists in improved means for securing the binder described in the parent Specification. The flange 14 upstanding from the upper-engaging portion 12 is secured to the shoe by a clamp 18 of resilient material having arms 20 terminating in claws adapted to hook over the flange on opposite sides of the shoe, a down-turned end 26 to engage the insole, and holes through which a tack t may be driven through the usual hole in the metal sole-plate of the last. The binder may be applied by the wipers of the lasting machine, as described in the parent Specification. The flange 14 may be reduced in depth at the toe end to allow more room for the folds in the upper margin at this point. |
