<p>A method of simulating co-articulation of phonemes (20) includes representing a sequence of phonemes as a set of function curves (328). The shape of the function curves is then adjusted an amount sufficient such that neighboring phonemes are co-articulated. The step of adjusting the shape of the function curves includes time-shifting (700) and scaling (600) the function curves. The method assigns a pliancy to all phonemes. The method may also include determining a suppression coefficient for each phoneme, the suppression coefficient based upon the pliancy and based upon separation between neighboring phonemes in the sequence of phonemes. The shape of the function curves may be altered based upon the suppression coefficient.</p> |
