An electric motor-powered weaving loom has a main drive shaft (1) with a mass-balance (3a, 3b) at each end (1a, 1b). The electric motor main drive (2) has one part (2a) driving one mass-balance (3a) and a second part (2b) linked to the second mass-balance (3b). The drive system operates through an electro-magnetic friction link (21, 24) and a clutch-brake unit (4). The electric motor rotor (2b) forms one mass-balance (3b).
