At least one side wall (3) of the box (1) can be pivoted about its bottom edge (4). An elastically resilient part (6) secures the pivotable side wall to at least one other side wall. A box, preferably for vertically oriented flat objects (7) such as CDs, CD-ROMs or zip-drive discs, has a rectilinear base (2) and four side walls. At least one side wall can be pivoted about an axis extending along the bottom edge of this wall. An elastically resilient part secures the pivotable side wall to at least one other side wall. Pivoting this side wall from an initially vertical position increases the box volume and places the elastic part under tension.
