摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate less liable to cause light leakage even when a polarizer with cross nicol arrangement is obliquely seen from a direction deviated from its optical axis, also less liable to cause coloration due to wavelength dispersion and excellent in neutrality. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate is obtained by bonding a transparent protective film (2) comprising two phase contrast films (21, 22) having 190-320 nm intrasurface phase contrast under light of 550 nm wavelength to at least one face of a polarizer (1) in such a way that the advance phase axes of the phase contrast films are made parallel to the absorption axis of the polarizer. When intrasurface refractive indexes are represented by nx and ny, refractive index in thickness direction is represented by nz and the relations of nx>ny and Nz=(nx-nz)/(nx-ny) are satisfied, the two phase contrast films are a combination of films whose Nz values are 0.15-0.35 and 0.65-0.85, respectively. The polarizing plate has compensatory action by which optical axes (e.g. advance phase axes) of the phase contrast films forming the transparent protective film shift in accordance with a change of the visual angle to offset a shift of an optical axis (e.g. absorption axis) of the polarizer.
