PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure durability equal or superior to the conventional one and to considerably reduce a heat treatment cost. SOLUTION: This toroidal type continuously variable transmission is composed of a rotatably supported input shaft, an input side disc, an output side disc, a plurality of trunnions, a plurality of power rollers and a thrust rolling bearing 32. The mutually opposed inner side faces of both input side and output side discs are formed in concave faces respectively of circular arc shaped cross section, and the peripheral surface of each power roller is formed in a spherical convex surface. The peripheral surface and the inner side face abut each other. The thrust rolling bearing 32 is formed of high carbon chromium bearing steel and subjected to carbonitriding.
