PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a yarn feed/recovering apparatus for an embroidery sewing machine enabling e.g. a treatment in exchanging colored yarns to be made automatically to shorten the time needed for the treatment or the like, thereby improve both the operating efficiency and productivity of the sewing machine, and also enabling a sure threading irrespective of the kind of yarn. SOLUTION: This apparatus for an embroidering sewing machine comprises a bobbin housing 22, a yarn control mechanism 24 comprising yarn tension control mechanism 25, a yarn length control mechanism 26 and a yarn feed mechanism 28, and a yarn selection mechanism 29; wherein the yarn length control mechanism 26 has such a scheme that a yarn threading part 26b is provided on the respective tips of sliding members 26a sliding along a guide member 26d set up nearly horizontally, a plurality of the sliding members 26a are made to slide selectively by the driving mechanism 27 for the sliding member 26a, and the yarn threading part 26b is positioned selectively at a yarn 11 feed position 26A and a yarn 11 holding position 26B to enable the yarn 11 to be held at a specified length to be fed to a needle 10 and enable the yarn 11 fed to the needle 10 to be recovered and held.
