PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printer in which high accuracy correction processing can be carried out using a portable battery power supply while reducing the cost and size. SOLUTION: Various kinds of correction processing, e.g. a voltage correction processing and a print rate correction processing, are executed prior to transfer of various colors of ink and correction of print density is controlled based on these operation results. In the print rate correction processing, a first correction value determining section 81b calculates the print rate for each gray scale in a line of image data and determines a correction value based on that print rate, a second correction value determining section 81c performs operation based on all gray scale data of all heating elements for each heating element performing print operation by generating heat at the time of printing a line of image data and determines a correction value based on the operation results, and heat generation of each heating element in a thermal head 20 is controlled based on the correction values thus determined.
