[Class 87 (i)] Symbolic members 2 forming part of road warning signs are secured in a moulded block 1 of hard wearing material by means of reinforcing members 3 embedded both in the block and in the symbolic members and extending laterally beyond the edges of the block to key with the road surface. Preferably, the blocks are formed of concrete in a mould having raised letters on the bottom to produce corresponding cavities in the block, the reinforcing wires or mesh extending across these cavities. The cavities in the block are filled with concrete containing marble or granite chippings or colouring matter to contrast with the block. Alternatively, the symbolic members 2 may be preformed with the reinforcement 3 embedded in them, and laid on the bottom of the mould before pouring in the material for the block 1. Where several blocks abut, the abutting edges may have interlocking means or grouting grooves, the reinforcement extending beyond the other two edges only.</p> |
