A holding device comprises: an open fronted passageway defined between fingers 5,6 which receives a flexible elongate member 25, e.g. a lead rope for a horse; a pivotally mounted latch member 9 which closes the open fronted passageway so as to secure the elongate flexible member 25 therein; and a pivotally mounted locking lever 15 which engages the latch member 9 to hold the latch member 9 in the closed position. The flexible elongate element 25 is knotted 26 such that when the latch member 9 is in the closed position the flexible elongate element 25 cannot be pulled out of the passageway. A guard member 20 may extend over the locking member 15 to prevent inadvertent movement of the locking lever 15. |
