PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystalline polyester which has an excellent impact strength and an excellent insulating property without deteriorating its excellent heat resistance and an excellent tensile strength, and to provide a method for producing the liquid crystalline polyester causing no coloration with excellent productivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the liquid-crystalline polyester comprises acylating the phenolic hydroxyl groups of an aromatic diol and/or an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid with an aliphatic acid anhydride and then subjecting the acylation product to an ester interchange reaction using an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and/or an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid, characterized by carrying out the acylation reaction and/or the ester interchange reaction in the presence of a heterocyclic organic basic compound containing two or more nitrogen atoms. The liquid crystalline polyester is obtained by the production method. |
