PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal compound having especially large values of dielectric anisotropy and refraction anisotropy, further having a low viscosity and an excellent low-temperature compatibility, and further to provide a liquid crystal composition containing the compound, and a liquid crystal display element constituted by using the composition. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal composition contains a compound represented by formula (1) as a typical compound, and the liquid crystal display element is obtained by using the liquid crystal composition.
