PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the installation of a position detector of an underground continuous wall excavator and enable the installation of the position detector even at a narrow site and a site where there is no great space above in the sky. SOLUTION: This position detector 10 of the underground continuous wall excavator is provided with a measuring rod 3 supported so as to oscillate freely using an upper end part as a fulcrum, a measuring wire 6 whose one end is connected with a lower end part of the measuring rod and which is extended from the lower end part of the measuring rod to the excavator 1, and a winch 8 capable of giving a fixed tensile force to the measuring wire by winding the other end side of the measuring wire in a base part 7 installed on the ground to calculate a position of the excavator based on an inclination angle of the measuring rod and a feed length of the measuring wire from the winch. The winch 8 is provided in the excavator 1. Moreover, a GPS receiver 12 for detecting a position in a horizontal plane of the upper end part of the measuring rod 3 is provided. The base part 7 is welded on a guide wall 11.
