PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel carbon black having damping and reinforcing capabilities, and a rubber composition containing the same and suitable for base isolation, vibration removal, and vibration-proof rubber. SOLUTION: The nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N2SA) of this carbon black is 70-150 m2 and its relation with the dibutyl phthalate adsorption(DBPA) satisfies formula (1): DBPA<0.1700×N2SA+57.6. The hydrogen content(Hc) and iodine adsorption(IA) of the carbon black satisfy formula (2): Hc<-3.1196×IA+3153.
