PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a matte coating material which improves the processability without reducing the matting effect, weatherability, water resistance, smoothness, and the like, particularly by using two specific types of polyester resins as the polyester resin. SOLUTION: This thermosetting matte coating material comprises, as the thermosetting resin components, (A) a polyester resin constituted of an aromatic and/or alicyclic polycarboxylic acid component and a polyhydric alcohol and having a hydroxyl number of 5-300 mgKOH/g, an acid value of 5-200 mgKOH/g, a number average molecular weight of 400-20,000, and a softening point of 30-120 deg.C, (B) a glycidyl group-containing vinyl resin having an acrylic ester monomer as the essential component, (C) a blocked isocyanate compound, (D) a dicarboxylic acid compound, and (E) a polyester resin constituted of an aromatic and/or alicyclic polycarboxylic acid component, a 4-8C aliphatic dicarboxlyic acid component, and a polyhydric alcohol component and having a number average molecular weight of 1,000-20,000, and a softening point of 50-200 deg.C.
