THERMAL HEAD AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head exhibiting a good print durability and a method for manufacturing a thermal head in which production quality can be stabilized while enhancing productivity. SOLUTION: The thermal head is manufactured by forming a thermal insulation layer 14 on the upper surface of a heat dissipation substrate 11, forming heating elements from a plurality of heating resistors 15 and power supply bodies 16a and 16b on the upper surface of the thermal insulation layer 14 and then coating the upper surface thereof with a protective layer 17 wherein the protective layer 17 is composed of a semi-insulating multielement ceramic film principally comprising a complex of insulating silicon nitride and a transition metal nitride.
