摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass optical element which is capable of forming even a lens of which one or both surfaces are a concave shape with high surface accuracy. SOLUTION: This method of manufacturing the glass optical element, of which the one optical function surface is a concave surface includes a process step of press forming the glass blank to be formed which is softened by heating by a forming die, of which the one of the forming surfaces is the concave surface and the other is the convex surface or plane and transferring these formed surfaces to the glass blank to be formed, a process step of cooling the formed glass so as to attain a glass transition temperature (Tg) or below by cooling the forming mold and a process step of taking the cooled glass out of the formed die. The cooling described above is performed in such a manner that the temperature ta2 of the die of which the forming surface is the convex face or the plane attains the Tg described above earlier than the temperature ta1 of the die having the forming surface of the die of which the forming surface is the concave surface or the cooling is so performed that the temperature tb2 of the mold having the forming surface of a larger radius of curvature attains the Tg earlier than the temperature tb1 of the die having the forming surface of the smaller radius of curvature.
