PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming method for proofreading in which a white background undergoes a small change and the color tone of black dots is stable when a color image is obtained using a silver halide photographic sensitive material and a white background is free from a change and unevenness and the color tone of black dots is stable when a color image is obtained by exposing a silver halide photographic sensitive material in accordance with dot image information obtained by color separation and dot image conversion in color plate making and printing steps. SOLUTION: In the color image forming method, a silver halide photographic sensitive material has a middle layer containing 1.0-3.0 g/m2 gelatin between a yellow image forming silver halide emulsion layer and an adjacent silver halide emulsion layer and a color developing solution contains a compound of formula (A), a compound of the formula HO-N(R)L-A and 0-2.0 g/l hydroxylamine.
