PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium detecting means to prevent the damage of a recording medium and the generation of an unnecessary jam and detect the state of a recording medium not by the optical characteristics of a recording medium and to provide an image forming device having the detecting means. SOLUTION: Typical constitution of the recording medium detecting means and the image forming device comprises a plurality of suction holes situated in the conveyance route of a recording medium; a suction means to generate a negative pressure in the suction hole, and a detecting means to detect a pressure or a flow rate of at least a part of a plurality of the suction holes. Based on the detecting result of the detecting means, the state of the recording medium is detected.
