PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer light guide excellent in heat resistance and workability and ensuring a small light loss. SOLUTION: The single-mode or multimode polymer light guide uses a polyimide containing 80-100 mol% repeating structural units of formula (1) and 0-20 mol% repeating structural units of formula (2) or (3) as the material of its optical core and/or optical clad. The polyimide light guide is an ideal polymer light guide that satisfies all of workability, optical characteristics (transparency and optical isotropy) and heat resistance and can widely be applied to various light guide devices (an optical switch, an optical filter, etc.), an optical integrated circuit or an optical wiring board used in the field of optical communications, optical information processing, micro optics or another general optics. |
