PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the adhesive force of the surface of a part where a transparent electrode on a substrate is removed by pattern etching to a sealing material or an adhesive material is not satisfactory and the problem of sealing breakage and the like is generated in a coating property, in a liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The substrate is characterized in that a film having <=50 deg. contact angle with water is formed on a resin layer or the surface of the resin layer is subjected to hydrophilicity imparting treatment to be modified into a surface having <=50 deg. contact angle with water and then a transparent electrode film is formed thereon.
