<p>Method for covering an elastomer sheath on a rigid roller core with an adhesive coating of fluoropolymer comprises: (a) grinding the elastomer sheath to roughen its surface and standardise its diameter; (b) applying an adhesive; (c) pushing a stretched section of fluoro-polymer tube, especially fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer or polytetrafluoroethylene with perfluoroalkoxy side chains, over the mantle; (d) heating the tube until the memory effect makes it shrink onto the sheath; (e) applying sliding pressure to the still elastic, warm tube so that the viscosity of the adhesive is increased to prevent it being stripped away but air bubbles between the sheath and tube are forced out sideways, the tube fits evenly over the entire area of the sheath and unevenness is ironed out; and (f) allowing the whole to cool.</p> |
