PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely fusion splice photonic crystal fibers without breaking the structure of their porous parts. SOLUTION: When the end parts of a pair of fibers each being a photonic crystal fiber 1 at least one side of which is provided with the porous part 12 in which many fine pores 12a extending in the central axis direction of the fiber are arranged in a crystal shape and a core part 11 which is formed at the center of the porous part in a solid shape or a hollow shape are fusion spliced each other, a heating temperature for heating the end parts is set so that a temperature difference with the softening temperature of material forming the fine pores 12a is <=500 deg.C and also the value of the product obtained by multiplying the temperature difference ( deg.C) by a heating time (sec) is set at 50 to 2,000, and fusion splicing is performed.
