PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide a colorless or white biodegradable plastic raw material from easily handleable raw materials. SOLUTION: This biodegradable plastic raw material is characterized by comprising a liquid product obtained by heating at least one monosaccharide selected from the group consisting of hexoses, ketohexoses and pentoses together with a polyhydric alcohol and at least one acid selected from the group consisting of oxalic acid, citric acid, malonic acid, succinic acid and phosphoric acid. The liquid product can be cross-linked with a polyvalent isocyanate compound to produce a plastic which can be used for various uses. The liquid produce is further useful as a modifying agent for various polymers.
