PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a punch press capable of holding and machining a workpiece by the pressure corresponding to a machining condition such as the material and the thickness of the workpiece and the size of a punch during the machining. SOLUTION: The punch is fitted to a chuck device provided on an upper spindle which is vertically movable with respect to an upper frame in an attachable/detachable manner, and during the machining, the workpiece is held by pressing a plate holder 89 which is provided in a vertically movable manner with respect to the punch by a hydraulic cylinder 69. In order to obtain the pressure corresponding to the material and the plate thickness of the workpiece to be machined, and the size of the punch to be used, a control unit 25 controls a pressure control valve 191 according to a data table 195.
