PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a composite material by which a treatment process for drying a wood can be omitted as much as possible and for example, even when water content is approximately 7%, tensile strength, bending strength and bending elasticity of the composite material can be enough improved. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a wood/plastic composite material consisting of performing the first heating and mixing process for forming a polymerizable carboxylic acid compound-grafted polyolefin by heating and mixing a polyolefin, a polymerizable carboxylic acid compound and a graft polymerization initiator at 150-250 deg.C, thereafter, performing the second heating and mixing process for heating and mixing the polymerizable carboxylic acid compound-grafted polyolefin, a polyolefin and a powdery granulated wooden material (the water content is 1-13%) at 100-200 deg.C and then, molding it is provided. The apparatus for manufacturing a wood/plastic composite material which consists of a uniaxial or biaxial extrusion molding machine and in which the first raw material feed opening 3 is a feed opening for the polyolefin, the polymerizable carboxylic acid compound and the graft polymerization initiator and the second feed opening 4 is a feed opening for the polyolefin and the powdery granulated wooden material and heating and mixing and extrusion molding are made to continue is provided.
