PURPOSE: A method for locking a telephone of a terminal is provided to prevent other person from watching information of the owner of a terminal by transmitting a pre-stored coded string using a short character service, thereby making the terminal be locked automatically when the terminal having important data of the owner is lost. CONSTITUTION: A user coded string is stored in a mobile terminal(50). When the terminal is lost, a short message is transmitted to the first base station through the coded string using other terminal(51). The lost terminal receives the short character service through a switching center(51). The lost terminal analyzes the message received from the second base station(52) and compares the message with a pre-stored coded string(53). If the message is identified with the pre-stored coded string, a locking function is executed in the lost terminal and the screen of the lost terminal is changed into a locking status(54,55). A telephone locking status is displayed on the screen of the status-changed terminal(57).
