PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record a smooth image without color irregularity at a higher speed in multi-pass recording by reciprocally moving for scanning a color ink-jet head having a plurality of ink ejection opening rows corresponding to inks of different colors in the main scanning direction for divided recording of an area by a plurality of scanning operation of the head. SOLUTION: According to the multi-pass recording, the ink to be provided initially at the time of recording in an area is the prioritized color with the influence of the color dramatically appears. Moreover, the recording medium is covered drastically in the initial two pass recording. That is, in the case color irregularity can be restrained in the initial two passes, since the disturbance of the color irregularity can be reduced remarkably for the entire image, the data recording ratio for the first pass to the area is set smaller than the data recording ratio for the second pass and thereafter.
