PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber for a catching rope, designed to be compact and as light as possible and make the tension-acting line of the rope coincide with the axis of a compressive coil spring so that a compressive force always stands in action. SOLUTION: This shock absorber for a catching rope comprises a prismatic spring 2, 1st and 2nd spring receivers 3 and 4 provided respectively with sliding holes 8 and check holes 9 evenly disposed centrally symmetrically at the cross-fashioned four corners, a 1st rope 5 with one end projected as a junction part 5a from the sliding hole 8 of the 1st spring receiver 3 and the other end projected as a check part 5b via the prismatic spring 2 and a guide cylinder 7 from the check hole 9 of the 2nd spring receiver 4, a 2nd rope 6 with a junction part 6a thereof similarly projected from the sliding hole 8 of the 2nd spring receiver 4 and a check part 6b thereof projected via the prismatic spring 2 and the guide cylinder 7 from the check hole 9, and the guide cylinder 7, wherein the guide cylinder 7 is such one that the outer diameter of a rigid cylindrical body thereof is slidable on the inner side of the prismatic spring 2, while the inner diameter is slidable on the respective intermediate parts 5c and 6c of the 1st and 2nd ropes 5 and 6, and has such a length as to be longitudinally slidable between the 1st and the 2nd spring receivers 3 and 4.
