PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent chain breakage and destruction by detecting any abnormal status of all cutter drive motors, and rapidly stopping them if any abnormality is found. SOLUTION: A motor drive controller 31 starts the cutter drive motors 6A to rotate drive gears 7 by the command from a control panel 33, and to rotate a cutter head 3 via ring gears 5. The motor drive controller 31 continuously measures and monitors the load and the torque of all cutter drive motors 6A by a current/torque meter 30. If any drive gear 7 or any rotation reduction gear 20 is broken and the rotation is abnormal, the cutter drive motor 6A connected to the broken drive gear 7 or the rotation reduction gear 20 is suddenly stopped to instantaneously generate large current and torque. The motor drive controller 31 detects the abnormal current and torque, and stops all cutter drive motors 6A rapidly to prevent chain breakage of other gears. |
