PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dwelling with a partition staircase enabling easy regulation of a balance of the communication between family members with the privacy of each dweller, corresponding to a change in a scene of life or a life stage of each dweller. SOLUTION: In the dwelling 10, the partition staircase 13 of which the opposite lateral sides are demarcated by a passage part side partition wall 11 and a public room side partition wall 12 is so provided as to be interposed between a passage part 16 from a main entrance 14 and a living-dining room 16. The partition staircase 13 is provided with a passage part side doorway 17 and a public room side doorway 18 separately and the doorways 17 and 18 are provided respectively with sliding doors 19 and 20 opening and closing them. The passage part side doorway 17 and the public room side doorway 18 are formed respectively between the end edge parts of the partition walls 11 and 12 and the opposite end edge parts of an opposite wall 28 which is disposed opposite to a staircase opening part 27, spaced from the end edge parts of the partition walls.
