PURPOSE: A method for automatically managing a short message of a mobile communication terminal is provided to enable a user to conveniently manage short messages by enabling the user to make and classify folders capable of managing the messages, by automatically classifying and storing the messages according to classification conditions in case that the messages arrive. CONSTITUTION: A new short message is received(201). A classification folder in which the message is stored is searched(202). It is compared whether the folder is suitable for classification conditions(203). In case that the folder suitable for the conditions is searched, the maximum number of messages to be stored in the folder is compared with that of message stored in the folder(204). In case that the maximum number is fewer than the number of the stored messages, a new message is stored in the folder(205). In case that the maximum number is identical to the number of the stored messages, the new message is stored. In case that there's no comparative folder, the message is stored in a default folder(207). In case that the new message is stored, a terminal generates a specific bell sound and notifies a terminal user that the message is received(208).
