PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device and a method for information retrieval which can actualize hypermedia by volume data. SOLUTION: The information retrieving device is equipped with a volume database 5 which stores volume data as material data of volume graphics, a volume data display means 6 which displays the volume data stored in the volume database 5, an anchor setting means 7 which stores anchor data composed of an anchor set for the volume data and multimedia information related to the anchor, an anchor selecting means 8 which selects the anchor set for the volume data, and an information presenting means 9 which presents the multimedia information related to the anchor selected by the anchor selecting means 8 by referring to the anchor setting means 7.
