PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method which has a high speed response equivalent to a distributed type MLA driving method and a low power consumption similar to a non-distributed type MLA driving method in a drivin apparatus for a simple matrix type liquid crystal display panel to which the MLA driving method is applied. SOLUTION: In the driving method for a simple matrix type liquid crystal display panel to which an 8 MLA driving method is applied, a fact is noted that a column, in which all lines become same in an orthogonal function list, always exists. In a first time T/8 of one frame period T, scanning is conducted by a distributed type employing the orthogonal function of the column (an a column). In a remaining time 7T/8 of the period T, scanning is made by a non-distributed type using the orthogonal function of other columns (b to h columns).
