PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode ray tube having a panel with flat outer surface, with improved characteristics of picture distortion, and convergence as well. SOLUTION: The color cathode ray tube, having a panel with flat outer surface and a shadow mask with a curvature, uses two electromagnetic quadrupole lenses, which change the practical s-dimension deciding the curvature of the shadow mask, in order to make the curvature of the shadow mask big. Both electromagnetic quadrupole lenses are set closer to an electron gun side than the horizontal deflection coil of the deflection yoke is set.
