PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector allowing stable insertion of many pairs of plug contacts and socket contacts engaged with each other by an operation lever. SOLUTION: A pair of facing side surfaces of one casing has at least two projecting engaging projections with an interval orthogonal to the engaging direction. A pair of facing sidewalls 14a and 14b of the other casing 6 has a pair of engaging plates 9 movable orthogonally to the engaging direction, the operation lever 10 oscillatably mounted to linearly move the engaging plates 9, and guiding grooves 28 and 29 for inserting the engaging projections. Each of the engaging plates 9 has two or more mutually parallel engaging grooves 33 and 34 that respectively have tilting parts 33b and 34b tilting in the engaging direction and insert the engaging projections. The sidewalls 14a and 14b of the casing 6 have a pair of sliding grooves 27 for slidably storing the engaging plates 9 orthogonal to the engaging direction.
