PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of automatically switching power supply from a main power supply to an auxiliary power supply and supplying electric power continuously to a light emitting diode to illuminate stairs safely in the case of emergency such as a power failure. SOLUTION: This stairs illuminating system consists of the main power supply 1, the auxiliary power supply 3, light emitting diodes 4 connected selectively with the main power supply 1 and the auxiliary power supply 3, and a controller 2. The controller 2 includes a detection circuit for detecting the presence or absence of a current from the main power supply 1 and a power supply switching circuit for switching power supply to the light emitting diodes from the main power supply to the auxiliary power supply when the current is not detected. A battery or a charging capacitor is used as the auxiliary power supply 3.
