[Class 87 (ii)] A machine for pasting accumulator grids comprises a rotating circular table 4 carrying a detachable rim 12 provided with apertures 13 corresponding in shape to the grids, a device B for holding a supply of grids and placing them in the apertures 13, a device C for holding a supply of paste, and pasting members 36, 41 rotating in opposite directions on opposite sides of the grid that has been brought beneath the device C by the rotating table 4. The unpasted grids are supported in the apertures 13 on rails 14 and the pasted grids are pushed through the apertures on to a conveyer by a device D situated at a point where the rails terminate. The table 4 is supported on rollers 3 and is guided by a circular depending flange 6 which makes contact with a number of rollers whose axes are vertical. The table is rotated through gearing by a motor 11. The device B for placing grids in the apertures 13 consists of two parts 18, 19 hinged together at 20 and enclosing a space s which is filled with grids. The pivot 20 is arranged eccentrically so that by rotating it the part 19 can be displaced relatively to the part 18, and thus the shape of the space s can be varied to accommodate grids of different shape. The whole device is adjustably vertically by means of a slide 15 and screw 17. The grids supported in the recesses 13 over the rails 14 are brought beneath the pasting apparatus which consists as shown in Figs. 11 and 14 of a fixed tube 23 enclosing a tube 28 rotated by a motor 29. The lower end of the tube 23 carries a ring 36 having four inclined triangular arms 40 which work the paste in the tube 28 into the grid. Beneath the grid is a plate 41 which rotates in the opposite direction and pastes the lower surface of the grid. A scraper 33 is fixed inside the tube 28 and the whole apparatus can be adjusted in height by a worm and screw mechanism. The pasted grids are pushed through the apertures 13 on to a conveyer by means of the device shown in Figs. 15 and 17. A number of connected plates 45 pivoted at 451 are normally held above the apertures 13 by a lever 48, the arm 50 of which rubs against the periphery of the rim 12. The latter is provided with notches 52, and when the lever 50 enters a notch the weight of the plates 45 aided by a spring 46 causes the plates to descend into the aperture 13 and eject the grid. |
