PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that assembly work is not efficient due to the need for making into elliptical shapes to match between a capillary and a coated optical fiber in the assembling and extinction ratio is liable to deteriorate, because the hole of the capillary is formed into the same elliptical shape as in a polarization maintaining optical fiber, for the purpose of preventing the deterioration of the extinction ratio through a shrinkage force or the like generating when hardening an adhesive. SOLUTION: Maximum gap between the major diameter of the coated optical fiber and the hole of the capillary is controlled, thereby the polarization maintaining optical fiber is obtained in which the deterioration of the polarization extinction ratio is suppressed and in which mass-productivity is realized. |
