PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means of securing the life of a lamp by preventing devitrification and explosion by controlling the temperature of local high temperature part of the surface of an arc tube disusing specified device. SOLUTION: By making non-conductive members 12a, 12b contact with a high temperature part of the surface of the electrodeless arc tube 11 which is regulated by the direction of resonance high frequency electric field formed at the central part of a group of side cavity resonators 14, only the part of getting into especially high temperature is enabled to restrain the temperature. By the above, air cooling device or the like are disused, and the lowering of luminous efficiency is restrained within irreducible minimum because only the temperature at intended part is enabled to selectively restrain.
