PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect an erbium added telluride glass optical fiber (EDTF) with an optical fiber for communication without inserting a mode field diameter converting part in an erbium added optical fiber amplifier (EDFA). SOLUTION: Mode field diameter of an EDTF is set larger than 6.3μm. Consequently, the EDTF can be connected with an optical fiber for communication while matching the mode field diameter within 10%. Today, the EDFA is commonly used in saturated region and energy conversion efficiency, dependent on connection loss, is more important than gain coefficient. Since the EDTF is connected directly with the optical fiber for communication in the invention, loss, reliability and yield in manufacturing are enhanced.
