PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simultaneously realize a low cross talk and a high contrast. SOLUTION: In data signals, the applied periods of a positive side data voltage +VD/2 and a negative side data voltage -VD/2 are made same in one horizontal scanning period 1H. Scanning signals Yj take either one of a positive side non-selecting voltage or a negative side non-selecting voltage in a non- selecting period Tn. In a reset period Tr, the signals Yj take a voltage having a same polarity of the polarity of the non-selecting voltage selected in the period Tn among positive and negative side reset voltages. In a major selecting interval Ts, the signals Yj take a voltage having an inverted polarity of the polarity selected in the reset period from among the positive and negative side selecting voltages.
