PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which has a light source section for emitting light for projecting images, prevents a user from touching the light source section reaching a high temperature and shortens the standby time required before the exchange of the light source. SOLUTION: This display device has at least a casing 2 which houses the light source section 6 and has an aperture 53 for exchanging the light source section 6, a cap 30 for light source exchange as an opening/closing means for opening and closing the aperture 53 of the casing 2, a shielding plate 32 as an opening regulating means for regulating the opening of the cap 30 for light source section exchange before the temperature of the light source section 6 falls down to the temperature at which the exchange is possible and a thermosensitive actuating member 32.
