<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus wherein a defect can be detected more stably and with high accuracy when the surface and the rear of a metal material are inspected in a hot rolling process. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus optically detect the surface defect of a steel plate 1 in a process in which the steel plate 1 is manufactured by a finishing rolling mill 2. By devices 5, used to inspect the surface side of the steel plate 1, and devices 6, used to inspect the rear side, which are installed in opposite places with reference to the flow direction of the steel plate 1, the surface side and the rear side of the steel plate 1 are optically detected. On the basis of their inspection information, the surface defect of the steel plate 1 is detected.</p> |
