PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of easily starting discharge of the discharge lamp, improving luminance of the two discharge lamps, and reducing the luminance difference by using a small-size and low-cost component. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with a DC power supply 1, an inverter circuit 22 inputting the DC power supply 1, turning on/off switching elements 8 and 9, and converting it to a high frequency power, a detection resistance 21 detecting the output of the inverter circuit 22, a control circuit 19 controlling an inverter 22 based on the output of the detection resistance 21, the two discharge lamps 16 and 17 having different rated power and connected to each other in series, and an inductor connected between the output of the inverter 22 and the discharge lamps 16 and 17 and having a secondary coil preheating filaments of connecting points of the two discharge lamps 16 and 17 respectively. The discharge lamp with larger rated power of the two discharge lamps is connected to a high potential side of the inverter. |
