摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium suitable for information recording at a fast rate. SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium having a recoding layer containing a light-absorbing dye on a transparent substrate, the recording layer satisfies all of the following conditions (1) to (3). The light-absorbing dye satisfies the condition (4) and the transparent substrate satisfies the condition (5). (1) The recording layer has the maximum absorption wavelength in a 670 to 750 nm wavelength range. (2) The absorbance of the recording layer at the maximum absorption wavelength ranges from 0.7 to 0.9. (3) The absorbance of the recording layer at 780 nm wavelength is 10 to 30% of the absorbance at the maximum absorption wavelength. (4) The heat generation of the light- absorbing dye measured by differential thermal analysis in nitrogen ranges from 500 to 100 μV.sec/mg. (5) The transparent substrate has guide grooves having 400 to 500 nm width and 120 to 160 nm depth for recording and reproducing light.
