PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical high rate optical communication using an optical communication module comprising a silicon substrate for mounting a spherical lens and a semiconductor light emitting element, and a semiconductor for driving the semiconductor light emitting element. SOLUTION: A silicon sub-assembly 100 is provided with, at the end of a silicon substrate, with a pyramidal groove by etching and a spherical lens is secured at a plurality of points in that pyramidal groove thus ensuring high accuracy mounting and high strength connection and obtaining a small and economic silicon substrate. Furthermore, the silicon substrate is provided with a slit on the side opposite to a semiconductor light emitting element with respect to the spherical lens so that optical coupling can be attained without interrupting or reflecting a collimate light coming from the spherical lens. The semiconductor light emitting element 102 and its driving semiconductor 203 are disposed proximately to each other and high rate transmission is realized by setting the length of a ribbon wire 204 as short as about 300 μm thereby suppressing impedance mismatching of signal wiring. |
