PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the size and the weight of a liquid crystal display device wherein a protruding part 6 protruding from a side surface 3a of one transparent substrate 3 is provided at the other transparent substrate 2 of the two transparent substrates encapsulating a liquid crystal and stuck to each other and semiconductor chips for displaying and driving a number of transparent electrodes 4 and 5 for pixel in both the transparent substrates are mounted on the protruding part 6. SOLUTION: The semiconductor chips are specified to be constituted of a first semiconductor chip 7 for displaying and driving half of the transparent electrodes for pixel in both the transparent substrates and a second semiconductor chip 8 for displaying and driving the rest and the two semiconductor chips are disposed in the longitudinal direction of the protruding part 6.
