PURPOSE: A device and a method for controlling the access by a digital video recorder are provided to enhance the security by inputting a face as a password. CONSTITUTION: The device comprises a camera(110) picturing a video of the front face, a monitor(120) displaying the video of the front face, a main body(130) including a video processor(131) converting the front face video into a black/white binary video and extracting a specific area from the black/white binary video, a video certification device(132) discriminating a face video through the template matching the characteristics of the extracted video data with the characteristics of the people approving to input the password, a memory(134) storing the video data and a password certification device(133) confirming the inputted password to the preset password, and a keyboard(140) inputting the password.
